  2. Choosing the right user feedback software, or any type of software for that matter, is a very delicate process for many businesses. Typically, the team (or role) appointed to choosing the software will start by gathering key criteria that is considered important for the business. Then they must find a suitable vendor that meets that criteria and hope that the implementation process goes as smoothly as possible. On the surface this may seem like a fairly simple task, however, according to an IBM study, only 40% (less than half!) of IT projects meet schedule, budget and quality goals.

  3. YOU'VE BEEN THERE: browsing on a slightly backwater website, crossing your fingers as you click what looks like a video's play button. Instead of the TV show you had queued up, a million pop-ups spew out. The page you were on morphs into a Caribbean timeshare ad. It's the sort of misdirection that Google aptly calls an "unwanted behavior." And on Wednesday, the company's Chrome browser team announced a series of fixes that attempt to block these sketchy shenanigans.

    Chrome already has a pop-up blocker, and a tool to control autoplaying videos. But the new features will take these user controls a step further. Beginning in Chrome 64, which is currently in developer preview, the browser will block third-party media components (HTML modules known as "iframes" that are often used to display things like ads) from triggering redirects unless you directly click on them.

  4. A few years ago I attended an event, organized by our partner BT Global Services. When talking about digital transformation, back then a relatively new term, several CIOs reminded how they always had transformed, illustrating their statements with state-of-the-art projects across a broad range of business functions, processes and technologies of the SMAC stack such as cloud computing (a major area for BT Global Services).

    It needs to be said that the average CIO attending the event worked for a large enterprise, the typical customers of BT Global Services. Now that digital (business) transformation has become a broadly adopted and – admittedly – often somewhat misunderstood term, what are CIOs thinking about digital transformation? Isn’t it just a matter of a few CIOs or projects anymore? How does it impact them?

  6. Beware of the HiPPO in the room. When a HiPPO (highest paid person’s opinion) is in play, your organization is most likely not relying on data to inform decision-making. In fact, I believe the HiPPO effect is one of the biggest barriers to more evidence-based and data-driven decision-making. With the quantity and quality of data available today, it is just poor business for organizations to ignore data in favor of making decisions solely based on what the HiPPO wants done...

  8. Feedback on social media can serve as a valuable source of information for companies, helping them to improve and develop products and services. Examples include Gillette, which launched the very first product for assisted shaving based on feedback inferred from social media, and Tesla, which improved the company’s app based in part on CEO Elon Musk’s reading a customer’s complaints on Twitter. At end of 2016, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky asked on Twitter what the company could launch in 2017. Anecdotes aside, does this user feedback actually help create better products?

Facebook today introduced a good handful of new features for groups on Facebook, with a focus on helping admins better manage and grow their online communities, and helping members better connect with one another. The additions, inspired by user feedback, include support for welcome posts, badges, member profiles and other admin-level controls.

    The company met this June with hundreds of Facebook group admins at its first-ever Facebook Communities Summit in Chicago. This allowed Facebook staff to hear directly from those who run online groups what sort of tools they need. One common activity that admins do is welcome new members to their Facebook group. But until today, this has been done manually by writing a post, then locating each new member and tagging them one-by-one in that post. A new “welcome posts” feature, however, lets admins write a welcome post that automatically tags new members, speeding up the process.

  10. In the face of a flood of "fake news," sensationalism, and mass marketing, Facebook has announced it is testing a new, more restricted and curated version of its News Feed.

    Based on user feedback, Facebook will determine and prioritize the trustworthiness of news outlets. This goes beyond the social network's previous decision last week to promote "meaningful posts" by filtering out posts and video content from brand posts and boosting those that friends and family share.
