  1. While it may just sound like a tech buzzword, digital transformation is so much more than that. The digital transformation is a complex and sometimes even daunting process that impacts multiple aspects of your business – all with the goal of creating efficient digital operations. And this process involves not only meeting the demands of changing technology, but also working in a way that adapts to these changes. Is your organisation struggling to keep up? Then keep reading…

  2. A lot has changed in the 30-plus years since author Donald A. Norman aired that grievance in his seminal 1988 text The Design of Everyday Things. These days, the user is king — and any product development team that prioritizes programmers’ desires over user experience (UX) won’t be a working product team for very long.

But building an intuitive app or website that truly accommodates user needs and behaviors requires ample know-how: there’s extensive user research and testing, then mocking up and wireframing designs based on that input, elevating those designs into high-fidelity prototypes and finally handing them off to developers as seamlessly as possible.

  3. It’s no secret healthcare has improved with technology. I can schedule an appointment with my doctor, view my medical record, and fill a prescription all from an app on my phone. Robotics has changed the way surgery is completed. Human organs are being printed using 3D printers. However, with all these amazing steps towards healthcare of the future, we are missing one important factor: digital user experience.

  4. While digital transformation failures don’t make the headlines as much as their successful counterparts, they do contribute to some troubling statistics.

  5. The Australian Government is asking industry for final feedback on a framework of standards for the development of an opt-in national digital identity. The framework is part of the Digital Transformation Agency’s (DTA) Govpass digital identity project, which aims to make the process of proving who you are to government services online simple, safe and secure.

The framework is currently in a private beta phase. It sets out the policies and requirements — including privacy, security, risk and fraud management along with standards for usability and accessibility — which will build a nationally consistent approach to online identity. The framework also establishes best practice for the public and private sectors.

  6. A few years ago I attended an event, organized by our partner BT Global Services. When talking about digital transformation, back then a relatively new term, several CIOs reminded how they always had transformed, illustrating their statements with state-of-the-art projects across a broad range of business functions, processes and technologies of the SMAC stack such as cloud computing (a major area for BT Global Services).

It needs to be said that the average CIO attending the event worked for a large enterprise, the typical customers of BT Global Services. Now that digital (business) transformation has become a broadly adopted and – admittedly – often somewhat misunderstood term, what are CIOs thinking about digital transformation? Isn’t it just a matter of a few CIOs or projects anymore? How does it impact them?

  7. Solving the problem of capturing and analyzing "dark data" is the business problem of the century, especially for CMOs who are increasingly accountable for generating revenue and improving business outcomes.

What is dark data? It's the unstructured data that's all over social networks, and it's full of valuable insights you can put to work to generate revenue and improve the way your business operates. But it's highly likely you're not using it—yet.

  8. While digital transformation is predominantly used in a business context, it also impacts other organizations such as governments, public sector agencies and organizations which are involved in tackling societal challenges such as pollution and aging populations by leveraging one or more of these existing and emerging technologies. In some countries, such as Japan, digital transformation even aims to impact all aspects of life with the country’s Society 5.0 initiative, which goes far beyond the limited Industry 4.0 vision in other countries.

  9. Think about the last tech implementation that you were a part of. How early did you get to see the solution? Was it in training a few weeks prior to launch? Or was it on the day it was launched?

There is a noticeable trend of projects trying to keep the final product away from end users; they avoid seeking feedback on how people would actually use the system being implemented. Or there are business persons on the project team who advise and provide guidance in shaping the solution, but in my experience, these people generally work at a middle management level and won’t be using the solution on a day to day basis.

  10. As its name suggests, digital transformation is in a state of flux. Business leaders are increasingly acknowledging the importance of implementing a strategy for making digital tools and ideas the core of business operations, but that doesn't mean transformation is happening everywhere you turn.
