  1. The proliferation of digital and omni-channels today is redefining user experience (UX). Limelight Networks’ “State of the User Experience – Southeast Asia” study reported that almost half of Internet users in the region are online 16 hours or more each week, outside of work, and they have high expectations for website performance, especially when it comes to E-commerce....

  2. Several years after the introduction of feedback analytics, online retailers continue to find ways to put the priceless resource of the user’s voice to work to increase conversions, sales and customer loyalty. Among the most innovative applications of direct customer feedback is analyzing trends to predict search queries, inform SEO design, adjust merchandising and improve overall marketing ROI.

Let’s say an online business selling apparel receives numerous feedback items related to a specific brand of shoe. Perhaps one customer is having trouble finding her size, another customer is requesting a certain color and a third wants to check on a shipping date for the pair she ordered. All three customers have different needs the company can meet by responding to their feedback forms. However, if that is all the company does with that feedback, it has missed a valuable marketing opportunity.

  3. Facebook today introduced a good handful of new features for groups on Facebook, with a focus on helping admins better manage and grow their online communities, and helping members better connect with one another. The additions, inspired by user feedback, include support for welcome posts, badges, member profiles and other admin-level controls.

The company met this June with hundreds of Facebook group admins at its first-ever Facebook Communities Summit in Chicago. This allowed Facebook staff to hear directly from those who run online groups what sort of tools they need. One common activity that admins do is welcome new members to their Facebook group. But until today, this has been done manually by writing a post, then locating each new member and tagging them one-by-one in that post. A new “welcome posts” feature, however, lets admins write a welcome post that automatically tags new members, speeding up the process.

  4. Two contrasting things happened in my world this week: I installed multiple analytics packages in a client’s website so we will get more insight into consumer behavior, and I started reading the Steve Jobs biography in which he basically says he’s not concerned with what customers want or say. These two ideas are seemingly diametrically opposed until you put more context around them.

  5. When people mull over “cutting the cable” and switching to streaming or slinging their home entertainment, they tend to fall into two camps: those who understand the new technologies (or trust their tech-savvy offspring) and those who haven’t a clue and just stick with what they have.

In business, there is a similar technology “comfort” divide, and banks are no exception. There is one key difference between the consumer and business worlds, however. At home, it doesn’t matter too much, relatively speaking, if you just stick with cable. In business, increasingly, the ability to effectively assimilate new technology is mission critical, and perhaps even existential.

  7. Feedback is the nexus between user needs and product development. But gathering and using it effectively doesn’t come easily; it’s one of the trickiest things to get right. Users are fickle, often misguided about what they want, and will give feedback you’ll want to build for but should completely ignore. This is a tough racket.

Like any business challenge, great execution is a composite of focusing on the right things while filtering out noise. By getting in the right state of mind when talking to customers, you can avoid missteps and use feedback to its full potential....

  8. What Acton doesn’t mention in his modest post is that he was a co-founder of WhatsApp, not just a regular staffer. And as such, he’s worth an estimated $6.6 billion, thanks to Mark Zuckerberg’s historic purchase of WhatsApp in 2014. He’s already donated shares valued at hundreds of millions of dollars to community issues, and this Facebook post marks a more direct step out of the business world and into the nonprofit universe....

  9. Demand for data has been surging over the past few years. Companies are rushing to adopt in-house data warehouses and business analytics software, and are reaching for public and private databases in search of data to kick-start their artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) strategies. Due to the growing demand, good data is becoming a valuable commodity, like oil in the 20th century, and companies are beginning to compete for the most lucrative reserves. In order to understand why data is important for your business, you must first understand the five reasons if gives you a competitive advantage....
